How to Set or Change a Custom Auction URL
Direct answer: Set a custom auction URL on Promote, next to Preview. The standard link is https://charityauctions.com/event/auction/{id}. A custom link is https://charityauctions.com/e/your-name. Do not change the custom name after you start sharing it. The old name will no longer work.
Both open the same auction. The standard link always works.
Open Promote
- Open your auction.
- Click Promote. It sits next to Preview.
- The path looks like
/admin/auctions/{auctionId}/design-and-promote/promote.
Find Custom link (for social & email).
Note: There is no Admin Dashboard path named Settings, Auction URL, or Slug. There is no left-sidebar item named Promote & Links. Click Promote next to Preview.
Set a custom auction URL
On Promote, open Custom link (for social & email).
Copy on that block: Pick a short, memorable URL. Guests open it and land on your auction page.
- Find the field labeled Link name.
- The input is prefixed with .../e/.
- The placeholder is spring-gala-2026.
- Type a short name.
- Watch the live preview: https://charityauctions.com/e/your-name.
- Click Save.
Save stays disabled when the field is empty or unchanged. After a successful save, a Remove button appears.
Share https://charityauctions.com/e/your-name. It forwards to your auction.
Link to share under Your link becomes that /e/ address. The QR code, When they open your link preview, website embed code, press-release template, and email invitation use the saved name.
Pick the name before you share it. Then leave it.
Change an existing custom link
You can save a new Link name on the same Promote block. Do not do this after you start sharing the link. The old name will no longer work.
- Open Promote.
- Open Custom link (for social & email).
- Type a new Link name.
- Click Save.
The old /e/ name will no longer work. Flyers, texts, and posts with the old name will break.
The standard event/auction/{id} link does not change.
If you click Remove, the old /e/your-name address returns 404. That old name will no longer work. Use the standard link.
Naming rules
On-screen steps say Choose a name (letters, numbers, hyphens).
The field does not show an error for other characters. It cleans the name as you type.
- Letters become lowercase.
- Spaces, underscores,
&, and!are stripped.
Example: typing Test Name_With Spaces & CAPS! becomes testnamewithspacescaps.
There is no maxlength on the input. A 63-character name saves.
Names are unique across auctions. If another auction already uses that name, Save is rejected with This name is already taken.
The standard link always works
https://charityauctions.com/event/auction/{id} stays on your auction. It works if you never set a custom name. It still works after you save or remove a custom name.
